Mixed-methods designs: qualitative research in experimental psychopathology, 5 & 6 February 2026
EPP Symposium 166

There is a surge of interest for using qualitative data analysis techniques in clinical psychology, including experimental psychopathology. However, most of us have been trained in quantitative data analysis and only have limited experience with qualitative data analysis. In this EPP symposium, we aim to give participants an introduction to several qualitative data analysis techniques through talks from experts and a hands-on workshop. Additionally, to provide a balanced perspective, we will have some critical reflections about the methodological quality of qualitative research and its philosophy of science. Finally, we will also have an introduction of how AI and related techniques can be used for processing text-based data in a quantitative fashion.
